Murat Merdin, a young entrepreneur from IZMIR, founded MET, which he founded in 2013 at the Technopark on the Izmir Institute of Technology Campus.
Murat Merdin, a young entrepreneur from IZMIR, produces robots that work with human precision with MET Advanced Technology Systems, which he established in 2013 at Teknopark on the Izmir Institute of Technology Campus. Mechanical engineer Murat Merdin broke new ground in the world with the robot he developed to attach and screw the pulley of a washing machine. Merdin has also produced a robot that assembles the cell that emits the image in televisions, which is very sensitive, with a fully automatic system.
100 PERCENT LOCAL
Stating that they have carried out various projects ranging from an energy-saving radiator to a microwave oven that eliminates the aflatoxin problem in dried fruit exports, Merdin said that they have developed solutions for many sectors from white goods to food. Stating that they have recently turned their focus to robots that work with human sensitivity, Merdin said, “Today, the assembly and screwing of the pulley of the washing machine is done manually. At this point, there were various errors that may occur in consumer use. We have developed a product that will eliminate this problem. We have produced a robot that works with human sensitivity, even more, sensitive than humans. It records its work during the assembly. In this way, the error is solved on the belt before going to the customer. This robot is 100 percent domestic and is currently being used in the factory of a Turkish company with products in the international market. This robot is a first in the world,” he said.
THE MOST EXPENSIVE PART
Merdin said that they developed a robot that will also assemble the cell that emits the image on the television based on the sensitivity in the washing machine, and gave the following information: “This part is very sensitive and the most expensive part of the television. It is a fragile glass. In Turkey, both manual and semi-automatic assembly of this work is done. We have developed a robot that performs fully automatic assembly. Two robots perform mutual assembly in a dust-free and clean room. We do not know if such a robot exists in the world, but it is a first for Turkey. It is a robot suitable for Industry 4.0.”
ESSENTIAL FOR COMPETITION
Responding to criticisms that the robots they have developed leave people unemployed, Murat Merdin said: “It actually creates new jobs. These robots are compatible with Industry 4.0. Developed countries are now producing with them. Investors who once turned their route to Turkey due to cheap labor are going to more economical countries. For this reason, we must produce robots to compete with the world. Otherwise, companies that cannot cope with increasing costs will close one by one. And many people will be unemployed. This is the era of technology.”
17 PATENTS IN 4 YEARS
Murat Merdin, who said that the company was established in November 2013, reported that they have 17 patents with the technologies they have developed since then. Merdin said, “We have achieved significant success with 17 patents in 4 years, not counting our first year. All of these patents have turned into commercial products, not just dreams. In the most recently published index, MET became the company with the highest number of patents in Teknopark Izmir.”
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS NEXT
“We develop boutique solutions for the private sector,” said Murat Merdin, adding that they mainly use robots developed with smart sensors. Merdin said, “In some sectors, there are jobs that are constantly assembled in the same way. This human-dependent continuity increases the margin of error. We are working to eliminate this. In this context, we are working on a robot that lays the sheet metal coming out of the automatic press. We also have a project to solve the production in a risky area in renewable energy with robots. The line that sorts food and works with artificial intelligence is one of the projects we are working on. We solve everything from mechanics to software within our own organization.”
